Professor Croll has been developing dependable software solutions for over
27 years. His primary focus has been with safety-critical computer control systems
and safety-related networked applications. He has attracted over $5 million
in competitive funding and produced over 90 international refereed research
publications (23 for e-health). With the emphasis on ‘safety and quality’
in health care, Professor Croll has directed his efforts to e-health and the
application of Electronic Medical Records for the public and community health
sectors. This research has a strong theoretical foundation yet is both pragmatic
and pertinent with a high industrial relevance contributing to the latest developments
in IT.
Other related projects led by Professor Croll include the development of the
LinkIT software suit to standardise the approach to holistic care for mothers
and their infants using data collected in the Macarthur sector. This led to
the integration of the psychological and social health dimensions into the MINET
data set. The LinkIT project developed a working application providing long-term
viability into usable medical research information. He also holds a current
ARC Linkage grant researching a care-oriented reference information model (RIM)
that will inform national policy for the development of a national IT strategic
plan for aged care and will be used to evaluate the applicability of the HealthOnline
framework. An earlier project involved developing the 'e-books' software used
to demonstrate electronic consent mechanisms for GPs in NSW. In addition, while
Professor Croll was at CSIRO he was commissioned as the consultant to undertake
a full risk-based security evaluation of a web-based Superannuation management
program.
